Cuba’s National Ballet Unveils New Creations in Honor of Dance



Cheng is a guest faculty member of Guangzhou Arts School and the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre. In 2015, she co-founded Oregon International Ballet Academy with her husband and served as the Artistic Director, overseeing ballet education programs and full-length productions.




Cuba’s National Ballet Holds Dances with Premieres




As a dancer, Webre was featured in solo and principal roles from the classical repertoire as well as in contemporary works by choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham. He has served on the juries of a number of international ballet competitions, including those in Varna, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, and elsewhere. He has served on the board of Dance/USA and his work has received numerous honors, grants and awards. He holds a degree in History/Pre-Law from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the seventh son in a large, boisterous Cuban American family.


Carreño became artistic director of SVB in 2013, after a distinguished performing career. Born in Havana, José Manuel followed the example of his uncle, Lázaro Carreño, a principal dancer with the National Ballet of Cuba. José Manuel received world-class training in Havana and went on to win distinctions in international ballet competitions.


Yuliya Rakova was born in Russia and began her ballet training at the age of ten at the Perm State choreographic college in Russia, home of the famed Russian ballet traditions, where her studies included classical ballet, history of theater, history of art and music, acting, stage makeup, history of European and American ballet, character, historic dance, and pas de deux. Upon graduation in 1995, she was invited to join the Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theater. Ms. Rakova danced with the company for five years before moving to Moscow. She joined the Moscow Dance Theater of Alexei Fadeechev as a soloist. She was featured in the modern dance choreographer Stanton Welsh`s world premiere Opus X. In 2001 she was invited to join Russian National Ballet and danced with the company until she moved to the United States to teach. She toured nationally and abroad, enjoying great success and quickly building a classical repertoire while performing such roles as Odile, the Sugarplum Fairy, Lilac Fairy and Maria Taglioni from Pas de Quatre. Yuliya has worked with notable choreographers such as Trey McIntyre, Ben Stevenson and Alexei Ratmansky. Her repertoire includes soloist roles in Swan Lake, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Paquita, Raymonda, Nutcracker, Chopiniana, The Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire and others. She taught for professional ballet schools such as Kirov Academy of Ballet, Ellison Ballet, Joffrey Ballet School, and Pennsylvania Ballet. Ms. Rakova continues to teach as well as stage classical productions and original works around the country and abroad. As an accomplished dancer and experienced teacher, Yuliya Rakova would like to share her knowledge with passion for young dancers.


Ms. Melissa currently teaches all levels of Tap at MUSEDaynelis Muñoz was born in Cuba where she studied for 8 years in Classical Ballet. She graduated in 2005 as a Professional Classical Dancer and Ballet Instructor and has been part of Professional Companies like the Cuban National Ballet, Mexico Ballet and Tulsa Ballet. Daynelis has performed on stages in Spain, France, Colombia, Mexico and many others. She has danced internationally in Principal roles such as Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Romeo and Juliet. She has danced pieces from internationally renowned choreographers from around the world such as John Cranko, Edwaard Liang, Marcello Angelini, George Balanchine, Wayne McGregor, Ma Cong and Alicia Alonso. Ms.Daynelis has participated in different International Ballet Competitions in Cuba and Mexico, including Youth America Grand Prix and has also judged professional dance competitions internationally. Ms. Daynelis is currently a Principal international guest artist and ballet instructor. Ms. Daynelis currently teaches all levels of Ballet and pointe at Muse.Shaina Kaim is a native Floridian, who started dancing at the age of three. She trained in classical ballet at International Dance Academy where she performed principle roles in their performances, such as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Shaina also trained with several ballet schools such as Orlando Ballet, Austin Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet. After attending New World School of the Arts, Shaina joined North Carolina Dance Theatre under the direction of Jeanne-Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride, now known as Charlotte Ballet. Shaina has now been teaching Ballet for over 10 years and has successfully completed all of the ABT Teacher Training Intensives, which are Pre-Primary through Level 7 and partnering with the ABT National Training Curriculum. Some of her other credentials would include certification in PBT- Progressing Ballet Technique, Yoga teacher training in several styles including kids yoga, and certified Alixa Flexibility, a safe way to learn flexibility.Ms. Shaina currently teaches all levels of Ballet, Yoga and PBT at MUSE.Sarah Weiner-Jamison, a native of South Florida, has recently relocated back to South Florida after having been the Founder and Artistic Director of her New York City-based opera company, The coOPERAtive Opera Company. Sarah has sung opera and oratorio throughout the New York Metropolitan area. In a review of her work, Opera News Magazine called her voice beautifully creamy and elegantly spun. Ms. Weiner-Jamison continues to perform recitals and concerts in the South Florida area. She is also on the voice faculty at Broward Community College, where she was nominated as adjunct professor of the year, and New World School or the Arts. Studied with Rita Shane and Gianna d'Angelo of the Metropolitan opera. Coached with Nicola Rossi-Lemeni, Patrick Summers (Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera). Ms. Weiner-Jamison holds the Bachelor of Music degree from Brenau College and the Master of Music degree from Indiana University.Ms. Sarah is currently the Music Director on all theatrical productions and teaches Private and Group Vocal Lessons at MUSE.
